The issue of labour market experiences of immigrants is important for the design of labour market and immigration policies. With the aging of the Canadian population and its persistently high and growing reliance on immigrants to meet the demands for skills and future labour force growth, the success of the knowledge based economy is expected to depend on the economic integration of immigrants. As a result, wider and more effective initiatives are required to eliminate the barriers to integration of new Canadians into the economy.
