Joint Umbrella Group Meeting (ACTEW, ONESTEP, OCASI and OAYEC)

ACTEW, ONESTEP, OCASI and OAYEC are holding a joint umbrella group meeting for our member agencies to discuss the HRSDC national policy directives and implementation of the Calls for Proposals process. All Toronto-area members with HRSDC funding are strongly encouraged to attend, as well as member agencies from the larger GTA, or from sectors that are moving towards a call-for-proposals process (e.g. CIC-funded agencies).

The LAFLG Training Board will be hosting consultation meetings in January 2005 for the purpose of identifying and prioritizing current and emerging labour market trends. The training board will share last year's research findings and develop a Community Plan of Action for 2005. TOPS Planning Meetings will take place on Tuesday, January 18, 2005 in Brockville and Thursday, January 20, 2005 in Kingston.

Government of Ontario Labour Market Information

This new site was developed by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities in partnership with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade to provide the latest information on the labour market in Ontario.

The LMI Internet site enhances services to the public by providing one-stop access to Ontario Government web-based labour market resources. The site is organized to provide easy access to the most relevant materials for some key client groups: students, job seekers, immigrants, employers, and business investors.

A new report from Canadian Policy Research Networks calls for a new framework for support to this vital sector. Social Innovation in Canada, by Mark Goldenberg, a former federal assistant deputy minister who worked on social and labour market policy, examines the role of the non-profit sector in social innovation and what needs to be done to make the most of it.
