NEEDED: Member’s feedback on the possible labour
market agreement
ONESTEP is in the process of preparing a position paper on this matter and
we want your thoughts. We believe that it is very likely that there will be
some kind of agreement with the Province over the next while. We want to influence
both the process and the final outcome of the implementation of the agreement.
We have prepared these questions and want to hear from ONESTEP members.

Special Report - Canada’s Evolving Jobs Market
According to a report released by the Bank of Nova Scotia, growth in Canadian
high skilled jobs, including construction, will continue for the next five years.
More people are leaving the construction sector than entering it, creating a
shortfall in many trades. The Canadian Construction Association considers the
skilled worker shortage to be their number one problem. Many retirements are
expected in the next few years. Shortages exist for: millwrights, pipe fitters
machinists, bricklayers, electricians and drywall installers. In Toronto, the
International Association of Machinists are Aerospace Workers finds that half
of their members are in the mid-fifties. (Globe & Mail: Sept. 15/03; Toronto
