Voluntary Sector Forum: Advocacy

In November 2003, the Forum made a presentation about advocacy to the Joint Steering Committee of the Voluntary Sector Initiative. The purpose was to inform our government colleagues about sector concerns and proposals for change in this area. We have posted a copy of the presentation of the Forum's website for your information and use in your efforts to discuss the issue of advocacy.

A decade of growth: The emerging geography of the new economy

According to Statistics Canada's report, "A decade of growth: The emerging geography of new economy industries in the 1990's," Toronto was the employment center for information and communications technologies (ICT) industries. In these industries, Toronto employed 200,000 workers, Montreal 90,000, Vancouver 54,000 and Ottawa 50,000. (Globe & Mail; Toronto Star; August 1/03)

Canadian Telework Association

Many Canadian companies offer flexible work hours according to a survey by Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC). Flextime reduces sick days, increases job satisfaction and results in higher participation rates in work-related training.
