Ontario Learns: Strengthening Our Adult Education System

In May 2004 the Adult Education Review was launched at the request of the Minister of Education and the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. The goal of the review was to propose a policy framework for adult education and recommend actions that would not only support but also improve adult education in Ontario. The review focused on the specific programs that help adults access further education and training, gain or keep employment, or participate more fully in the life of their community. Their report entitled "Ontario Learns: Strengthening Our Adult Education System" has just been released. This publication is available on the ministry's web site and hard copies are also available by mail.

Bringing Workplaces Within the Law

Canada’s system of employment standards is not working as well as it should. Too many workers are unaware of their rights, are unprotected or are too vulnerable to protest. Too many employers are under competitive pressure to cut corners, don’t know the law, ignore it, or escape inspection for compliance. These are among the findings of a new study published jointly today by CPRN and the Institute of Public Administration of Canada.

Labour’s Vision of Workplace Training and Life-Long Learning

This publication points out changes that need to be made in the government in order to create a more productive population. It emphasizes the need for policy makers to make acquiring skills and education a long-term priority.
