Call for suggestions: HRDC's Youth Employment Strategy

The Executive Committee of ONESTEP is meeting with Senior Staff of HRDC in November. We have the opportunity to provide them with feedback on HRDC's Youth Employment Strategy -- this is the program that began in April of this year. It has three components: Skills Link, Career Focus and Summer Work Experience.

Do you have information, suggestions, ideas that we can share with HRDC?

Are there ways that this program can be organized differently? Please note that all information that we collect is confidential. Only agreggated information will be shared at this meeting -- we will not mention specifics such as agency names or persons that provided the information.

Please send your comments to Bernadette Beaupre at bbeaupre@onestep.on.ca or by telephone at (416) 591-7151 X 224. Thanks for taking the time to respond to this email.

Interesting Ideas and Good Practices at Immigrant-Serving Agencies

ISAP Program Review

RealWorld Systems sought examples of successful approaches for meeting the needs of clients and organizations in the settlement sector at various stages of the ISAP program review. Different stakeholders in the process commented on excellence in programs, services, and agencies. These included successful services and interesting programming, innovative policies, and good practice.

These ideas provide a perspective on potential improved practices for the settlement sector. Since most of them have not been examined critically or evaluated for effectiveness, we cannot call them ‘best practices’ at this point. Further research is required to understand how and whether broader implementation and sharing is valid.

The Great Social Transformation: Implications For The Social Role of Government in Ontario

This paper was commissioned in the Spring of 2002 by the Panel on the Role of Government, chaired by Ron Daniels, Dean of the University of Toronto Law School. It was one of a number of papers designed to set the scene for the Panel's research program and consultations with the people of Ontario. It therefore provides a very broad survey of the way in which the patterns of family, work and community life of the people of Ontario have been transformed in recent decades.
